Gibbet (2000) Installation, digital video [still] |
A physical and metaphorical loop is constructed between a pair of video cameras, one 'free' and the other 'captive'. The viewpoint of each camera is precisely misaligned with the other, only designed to realign under specific but unpredictable conditions, whereupon
one of the viewpoints then fails. The passing synchrony seems to
initiate or permit the failure, raising questions about the true
connection between the two components of the work. It is suggested that they have been co-dependent all along, relying on each
other for survival.
