Fluence

Fluence is a project that was developed in collaboration with Dominic Lash, hosted by www.dispatx.com, culminating in a performance at Radley College, Oxfordshire on 24th October 2006.

The recording and short video clips that comprise the online version of Fluence are the residual documentation of a single 40-minute live performance. This performance itself, however, contains within it traces of an earlier performance. Blurring of temporal boundaries, as well as investigating and subverting the distinction between input and output, are central to the work.

You can download the recording in MP3 format.

The performers were:

David R J Stent, who designed and built the graphic device which allowed him to create multiple lines on a scrolling sheet of paper, acting both in response to the musicians and as a guide for their activity.

Dominic Lash, on double bass, who also wrote the flowcharts that guided the improvisational interaction between the participants.
